Tennessee four-year colleges cannot discriminate by race, color, ethnicity, or national origin in any program or activity. Admissions and financial aid cannot consider those traits. Schools cannot use group race data to set quotas or make admissions choices. Scholarships may differ for other reasons, but not based only on race, color, ethnicity, or national origin. This includes actions tied to affirmative action practices.
Each Tennessee four-year college must give notice about this law and any related policies to central admissions and financial aid staff. Existing staff must get it before the 2025–2026 school year starts. New hires on or after the start of that year must get it when hired.
If you believe a Tennessee four-year college violated this law, you can go to court. You can ask a judge to stop the violation and declare your rights. This enforcement is available under Tennessee law.
