Starting July 1, 2025, bail bond premiums depend on where you live. Tennessee residents pay exactly 10% of the bond amount. Nonresidents pay between 10% and 15% of the bond amount. For example, a $2,500 bond costs a $250 premium for a resident, or $250–$375 for a nonresident.
Starting July 1, 2025, bondsmen may let you pay the premium and initiation fee in equal installments. They cannot charge interest or extra fees, except third‑party processing fees. You must pay at least 50% when the bond is signed. You must finish paying the premium within 12 months.
Starting July 1, 2025, anyone who uses a professional bondsman must get a standard notice with the bond. It explains how charges are figured and shows examples. It says a one‑time $25 initiation fee and a $12 bail tax are allowed. It tells you to insist on a receipt, and the bondsman must keep a duplicate. If you give collateral, you must get a written receipt that describes it and how to get it back. It also says a bondsman cannot lock you back up or surrender you without good cause.
