Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

5 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 3 mixed.

More time and notice for provisional ballots

County election commissions must publish where the provisional ballot counting board will meet, with the election notice. They may change the location only in an emergency. If a county cannot finish counting provisional ballots on time, the state elections coordinator may extend the deadline, but no later than the third Monday after the election.

No online ballots or internet-linked machines

County election offices cannot count ballots sent over the internet. Voting machines cannot be connected to the internet. These rules protect the security and integrity of votes.

Changes take effect immediately

This law takes effect when it becomes law. The rules apply starting on the date of enactment.

New ID and mail rules for voter registration

If you register in person at a county election office, you must show ID or proof of your address, as defined by state law. If you register at a supplemental event without those, officials must process your form under the existing statewide process. Election administrators must mail a voter registration card to new voters who did not provide address proof or who used a supplemental registration. These steps tighten checks but keep a path to register.

Stricter address checks and roll purges

Election offices must start address checks and possible removal when there are signs a voter moved, such as no voting or no updates for two straight regular November elections. The state election commission must purge registrations required by state law, unless federal law forbids it. These steps aim to keep rolls current but can remove inactive voters.
