The law creates the Tennessee Agriculture and Forestry Hall of Fame on July 1, 2025. It honors people who greatly improved farming or forestry in Tennessee. A written nomination and a majority board vote are required. The board sets a Tennessee residency time, and a person is only eligible five years after death. The department can set rules and fees, and the board can accept gifts to fund awards and promotion. The board controls use of the hall’s name and any award copies or displays, and all assets of the old hall transfer to the new one.
A new nine-member board runs the hall starting July 1, 2025. Seats are filled by the agriculture commissioner, UT and TSU leaders, Farm Bureau, FFA, the governor, and legislative leaders. Four appointed seats must go to people with strong Tennessee agriculture or forestry ties. Initial terms are staggered: one ends June 30, 2031; one ends June 30, 2029; two end June 30, 2027. After that, members serve six-year terms starting July 1; vacancies are filled by the original appointer. The board is attached to the Department of Agriculture, elects a one-year chair, needs five members for a quorum, and members serve without pay. The commissioner calls the first meeting on or after July 1, 2025; the chair calls later meetings.
