Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Insurers must share health data digitally

Beginning July 1, 2025, health insurers in Tennessee must run standard digital connections for health data. They must provide five types: patient access, provider directory, payer-to-payer exchange, provider access, and prior authorization. These tools let insured people and in-network providers view and share health records and prior authorization details. Insurers must have each tool live by the earliest date that CMS requires for any of their plan types.

Old state health record rules removed

Beginning July 1, 2025, the law deletes subsection (b) and (c) of §63-2-104 and subsection (c) of §56-7-128. Those prior state rules no longer apply. This cleanup aligns the code with the new standard digital data-sharing system and reduces conflicting rules. But it also ends any rights or duties that were only in those deleted parts.
