No privilege tax for farm co-op subsidiaries

Subsidiaries controlled by Tennessee-formed agricultural cooperatives do not owe Tennessee’s privilege tax for doing business for profit. The subsidiary is not treated as a for‑profit taxpayer for this tax. To qualify, the subsidiary must pay its profits to, or spend them for the benefit of, the cooperative or cooperatives. Its activities must ultimately promote Tennessee agriculture. This takes effect when the law becomes effective.
