Beginning July 1, 2026, if you qualify for Tennessee’s free disabled veteran license plate, you can choose a free disabled veteran parking placard instead. If you already have the free plate and also want a placard, you must pay the regular passenger vehicle fee. The placard works the same as a distinguishing plate for parking when you display it as the instructions say. The state sets procedures for issuing these placards. The law also treats both the free plate and the placard as the same type of certificate under parking rules.
