Beginning July 1, 2026, it is a crime to improperly release certain confidential law enforcement personnel information. Negligent release is a Class B misdemeanor. Knowing or intentional release is a Class A misdemeanor. Negligent release of especially sensitive personnel details listed in law is a Class E felony. Releases allowed by the employee or by court order are still permitted.
Beginning July 1, 2026, all state and local officials must keep certain immigration enforcement details confidential. This covers officer identities and contact details, and plans for future operations like date, time, place, logistics, and tactics. Sharing to carry out enforcement is allowed, and federal law or court orders still control what is public. The law overrides any conflicting state or local policy. Negligent public release by an official is a Class E felony and can lead to removal from office. The definition of who counts as a local "official" now clearly includes mayors, agents, employees, members, and representatives.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the names of undercover officers are confidential. Anyone required to keep that information secret who negligently releases an undercover officer’s name commits a Class E felony. This uses the state’s definition of criminal negligence.
Beginning July 1, 2026, the law deletes one public-records subdivision, removes a line that limited a penalty to a $500 fine, and fixes an internal cross‑reference. Removing the $500 "fine only" cap can allow stronger penalties under that clause.
