Driver license help for incarcerated Tennesseans

The law helps people in Tennessee prisons keep the ID they need to drive. If you had a valid Tennessee driver license when you entered, the Department of Correction and the Department of Safety provide you a driver license; if it only expired because of prison, it still counts as in good standing. If you did not have a valid license in good standing, the state gives you a Tennessee photo ID instead. If your license was unexpired when you went in and expired in prison or within six months after release, the state extends it to last six months after you leave. The Department of Safety must tell you within three days that you need to apply to renew, and the agencies must share data to make this work.
