Beginning July 1, 2026, financial institutions must serve you a copy of any subpoena for your records if you can be served. If you are a named party in a case, service follows the normal civil pleading rules. If the institution reasonably believes you are deceased, it does not have to confirm service on you, your estate, or your heirs. Records must be delivered the way and place the subpoena says. If not specified, the issuer and custodian can agree on a method, including electronic delivery. If they cannot agree, the custodian may use hand delivery, U.S. mail, or a delivery service; if no location is listed, the custodian must send the records directly to the issuer. The issuer must keep your records secure and share them only with people allowed for that case.
