Federal tax credit for Tennessee scholarship donations

Tennessee now joins the federal tax credit program for donations to scholarship groups. You can claim the federal credit only when you give to a Tennessee group on the state’s published list. The Department of Education certifies and sends that list to the U.S. Treasury and posts it online. The department can set rules and work with other state agencies to run the program. Tennessee keeps eligibility for donors to claim the credit in tax years starting in 2027, as long as the state follows federal rules.

Scholarships can cover homeschool and K–12 costs

Certified Tennessee scholarship groups may fund qualified K–12 education expenses. This includes homeschool costs when federal rules allow it. If your child is served by a listed group, a scholarship can lower what you pay for school.
