Tennessee K-5 classrooms ban digital devices

Beginning July 1, 2026, Tennessee public and charter schools that serve grades K-5 must prohibit K-5 students from accessing digital devices used for instruction at school. Teachers and staff cannot use digital devices to teach K-5 students. They cannot give K-5 tests in an electronic format. This does not apply to public virtual schools and does not override accommodations required by IDEA, Section 504, or the ADA. State-required screeners and some state-adopted tests can still be electronic. The law defines "digital device," "parent," and "social media" for these rules.
