Cheatham County dedicates tax to schools, roads

The law sends all proceeds from this local tax to the county general fund. It allocates 46.67% to the Education Debt Service Fund. It allocates another 46.67% to a separate reserve within that fund to pay debt for school buildings. It allocates 6.66% to the Highway/Public Works Fund. The Cheatham County governing body sets how the tax is collected, per Section 5 of the act. The law takes effect only if two-thirds of the county legislative body approve it and the approval is certified to the Tennessee Secretary of State.
