Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Maintenance ends if payee remarries

After a final judgment for maintenance, the court cancels maintenance if the payee remarries. The court does this when the payer applies with proof and gives notice to the payee, or when the court gets the payee’s notice. A payee who remarries must tell the court and the payer within 10 business days.

Hide personal info in support documents

Unless the court orders otherwise, you may remove certain personal details before giving income‑change documents to the other party. You can redact protected addresses, Social Security numbers, account and tax numbers, IDs for a spouse or unrelated minor child, and other identifiers not needed to check income.

Less income sharing in child-only support

If the order is for child support only, neither party must share income that the department does not count as gross income. If the payer is not a shared‑placement parent, the payee does not have to tell the payer about the payee’s employer or income changes. A shared‑placement parent has at least 25% court‑ordered time with the child and is ordered to share basic support costs based on that time.

New reporting rules for support cases

If you have a child support or maintenance order, you must report address changes within 10 business days. You must also report any change of employer and any big change in gross income within 10 business days, to the agency and to the other party. Telling the agency your income changed does not change the order; you must ask for a court revision or use the annual adjustment process. You must give the agency your Social Security number, addresses, phone, driver’s license number, and your employer’s name, address, and phone, and update any changes within 10 business days. Information you give is confidential. If you do not provide required information, the court can hold you in contempt and may order you to pay costs and reasonable attorney fees.
