The law makes child trafficking a Class B felony. It covers recruiting, transporting, patronizing, soliciting, or trying those acts for commercial sex. Anyone who knowingly benefits from child trafficking is also guilty of a Class B felony.
The law sets firm prison floors for trafficking crimes. For human trafficking, judges must give a split sentence and at least 10 years in prison. For child trafficking, the prison part must be at least 15 years. Other penalties and any allowed enhancements still apply.
The law makes human trafficking a Class C felony. Anyone who benefits from a trafficking scheme, and knows or should know it, is also guilty of a Class C felony. Prosecutors can start a human trafficking case up to 10 years after the crime.
