Move over or slow down for stopped vehicles

The law expands Wisconsin’s move-over rule. When you approach an emergency, roadside service, or disabled vehicle on or within 12 feet of the road, use care. If there are two or more lanes and it is safe, move to a lane away from the stopped vehicle and pass. If there is only one lane, or changing lanes is not safe, slow to a safe, reduced speed until you are past. A disabled vehicle is a stopped car with hazard lights, flares or warning devices, or people visibly attending it.
