The law raises the cap on municipal court costs from $38 to $48 per separate matter. Courts must still charge at least $15. The fee applies whether you default, plead guilty or no contest, get a warrant or summons, or go to trial. No fee is charged for financial responsibility violations under s. 344.62(2), or for ordinances matching s. 343.51(1m)(b) or s. 347.48(2m). From each fee, the municipal treasurer pays $5 monthly to the state general fund and keeps the rest for the city or town.
