Timeline to install Mississippi River Trail signs
The law sets a clear process to mark the Mississippi River Trail. DOT acts after every municipality on the Great River Road approves the route and a support resolution. Once DOT makes that determination, it notifies the Legislative Reference Bureau, which publishes the date. DOT must buy and put up trail signs within 18 months after that published date. DOT can request extra funding for signs, and the finance committee does not need to find an emergency.
