Wisconsin criminal case data goes public

Beginning on the first day of the seventh month after publication, the director of state courts must send the Wisconsin Department of Justice case data for every charged crime in circuit court. The data include the county, the prosecutor and court official names, the charges, law-enforcement charging recommendation, release and bail decisions (with amounts and the decision-maker), other release conditions, any plea or deferred prosecution offers, dismissals, and whether there was a conviction. DOJ must post an interactive, searchable database with these facts and keep them for 10 years after a charge is filed. The database cannot include any personally identifying information about defendants. DOJ must also send an annual report with the same information to the legislature.
