The law lets prosecutors add up the value of items from several thefts by the same person within six months. This applies to both general theft and retail theft. The combined value can lead to higher charges and tougher penalties. Prosecutors can charge the combined acts as one crime. The trial can be in any county where one theft happened, and one prosecutor has exclusive control of the case.
