Faster decisions on advanced nuclear plants

Applicants for a large power plant with an advanced nuclear reactor get a final decision within 150 days after the application is found complete. The commission chair may extend once, for up to 150 more days, for good cause. If the commission does not act by the deadline, the certificate is treated as issued. This first applies to applications found complete on the subsection’s effective date.

Wisconsin studies and funds nuclear siting

The state Public Service Commission must study where to build nuclear and fusion power. The study must list options on existing power plant sites and on new sites. It must also name places for testing and demo projects, and give guidance on advanced and small modular reactors. The commission may hire a contractor through a request for proposals. The report is due by the first day of the 13th month after the law takes effect. The law creates a continuing appropriation to pay for the study; the current schedule lists $0 for 2025–27.
