26% court surcharge, reduced if fine cut

Wisconsin courts add a 26% penalty surcharge to most fines and forfeitures. It is on top of the fine and does not apply to some listed exceptions, like safety belt, nonmoving traffic, and financial responsibility violations. For multiple offenses in one case, the court totals the fines, then applies 26% to that total. If the court reduces or suspends your fine in whole or in part, the surcharge drops in the same proportion.
