911 centers and dispatchers in Wisconsin are immune from civil lawsuits when they transfer a caller to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. The protection applies to phone or text transfers to 988 or any future successor number under the federal program. The immunity does not cover gross negligence or willful or wanton misconduct. This change addresses civil liability only; it does not change criminal liability or professional discipline.
