UTV weight limit raised to 3,500 pounds

The law raises the maximum empty weight for a utility terrain vehicle from 3,000 to 3,500 pounds. Weight is measured without fluids, and the vehicle must have been built at or below 3,500 pounds. It must be designed mainly for off-highway use and must not meet the federal motor vehicle safety standards in effect on July 1, 2012. Golf carts, low-speed vehicles, dune buggies, mini-trucks, and tracked vehicles do not qualify.
