Stronger in-person rights in civil court
If you are a defendant or respondent and the law gives you a right to be in the courtroom, the judge must grant your objection to using video. Exception: in mental health or protective placement cases (chapters 51 or 55), if the objection is about an expert witness testifying by video, the judge decides. The judge uses factors set in state law to make that call.
