The law bans devices that switch, cover, or change a license plate so it cannot be read. You cannot possess, sell, buy, install, or use these devices. Vehicles may not be equipped with them. Authorities can tow and impound a vehicle found with one. You must pay reasonable towing and impound costs to get it back. Violations can bring a fine up to $1,000, up to 90 days in jail, or both.
