Starting in the 2026–27 school year, every public, private, and charter school gives yearly employee training on spotting, preventing, and reporting grooming and boundary violations. The Department provides a free training schools can use. Schools may use that training or a different one they decide meets their policy. The goal is to help staff notice and report improper conduct with pupils.
Schools must adopt a communication policy by September 1, 2026. It covers employees and volunteers acting in their official role. It applies to messages during and outside school hours. The policy must set rules for content and allowed ways to communicate. It must list penalties for breaking the rules, up to firing. It also covers pupils in other schools and in home-based private programs.
