Penalties for fake 911 calls and texts

It is a crime to call or text 911 to report a fake emergency when you know it is not real. A first offense is punishable by a $100 to $600 fine, up to 90 days in jail, or both. Any later offense within 4 years of the first is a Class H felony. The law now covers texts to 911, not just calls.
