Higher small claims limits up to $15,000

Small claims court now covers more cases. Money disputes can be up to $15,000 (was $10,000). Replevin cases to get property back can be up to $15,000 (was $10,000). The change applies to cases filed starting January 1, 2027.

More consumer credit cases in small claims

The consumer credit dollar test rises from $25,000 to $50,000. It covers loans (amount financed), motor vehicle leases (total lease obligation), and purchases (cash price). This aligns small-claims rules that reference this test, so more of these disputes can use small-claims procedures. It applies to actions or claims started on or after January 1, 2027.
