5 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 2 mixed.
Beginning July 1, 2025, you do not have to give your physical driver's license card to the Department of Transportation when your license is suspended. The department no longer keeps surrendered cards under the old rule.
On July 1, 2025, the law removes several outdated motor vehicle statutes. This cleans up the code and reduces confusion. It does not directly change most people's fees or benefits.
Beginning July 1, 2025, the state ends temporary driver's licenses tied to alcohol-related stops. Officers and the department can no longer issue a temporary license under the old rules.
If you are stopped for alcohol and given a suspension notice, you have 20 days to ask for a hearing. If you do not ask within 20 days, you give up the hearing and the suspension starts after the notice period ends. When you ask on time, the hearing examiner must schedule within 45 days and give you at least 10 days' notice. If the delay is not your fault, you get credit for the extra days. For drivers under 21 who test 0.02% or higher, the officer must file a signed report and give the same 20-day hearing notice. These rules take effect July 1, 2025.
Most changes in this law take effect July 1, 2025. Two parts take effect immediately: the rule that lets the Transportation Department write rules, and the effective-date section itself. That lets the department set forms and procedures now.
