More frequent in-person checks for sex offenders

Beginning July 1, 2025, people convicted of certain sex offenses must check in more often in person. For one group of listed crimes, you must report your current address to the county sheriff every six months after release or when parole starts. For another listed group, you must report every three months. The sheriff takes a new photo if your appearance changed, at least once a year, and sends updates to the state within three working days. If you have no fixed home and report as a transient as required, you count as meeting the address check rule.

New rules apply only to future convictions

The law takes effect July 1, 2025. The new check-in schedules apply only to people convicted on or after that date. People convicted before that date are not covered by these new timing rules.
