Beginning July 1, 2025, every Wyoming police agency accepts any credible missing-person report without delay, unless a listed exception applies (for example, the person is already safe, another agency is taking the report, or the report lacks a clear basis). The primary agency is the one over the person’s most recent verifiable location, or if unknown, the last known home address. Accepted reports go into national, regional, and state databases within eight hours. If the person is not found in 30 days, the agency sends a full record, with a photo if available, to the Attorney General and the Division of Criminal Investigation. The primary agency requests a photo and cellphone information, alerts other agencies, and shares any cellphone ping results when appropriate, and it evaluates using news and its social media to help the search. The state Division of Criminal Investigation can also share public information on active cases when it helps find someone or is in the public interest.
