If fewer than 500 rodeo plate sets are issued by December 31, 2031, production ends. If that happens, the department reports the end of production by January 15, 2032.
When you apply for the rodeo plate, you can choose to donate $20 or more. The state treasurer holds the money in a separate account. Each year after July 1, the treasurer splits last year’s donations evenly between the University of Wyoming and each Wyoming community college to support rodeo programs.
The law creates an optional rodeo license plate for non‑commercial vehicles you own or lease. Apply through your county treasurer when you register. You pay normal registration fees plus the specialty‑plate fee set in Wyoming law. The plate says “Rodeo — The official sport of Wyoming.” Plates are available starting January 1, 2026. The Department of Transportation sets the design, follows the 2033 redesign cycle, and may issue rules and forms.
If your rodeo plates are lost, stolen, or damaged, you can get duplicates from your county treasurer or the department. You must apply and pay the replacement fee set by law. Do not display a duplicate for a lost or stolen plate until the old validation sticker would have expired.
