Qualified park superintendents, managers, and rangers are peace officers inside state parks, recreation areas, archeological sites, and historic sites. They can also help other officers with a felony they saw while on duty, but only within their own jurisdiction. These park officers are also treated as law enforcement officers under state law in those same situations. This expands on-site enforcement and clarifies who can enforce laws in park areas.
The law blocks certain categories of peace officers from using some out-of-area powers under the statute. Officers in those categories cannot use the listed extra‑territorial authorities. Their powers stay within their usual area unless other rules apply.
