Summary
Would allow NASA to transport returning officers or employees before they receive post-flight medical driving clearance when medical care or official duties require it. It would add a new paragraph to 31 U.S.C. 1344(b) permitting transport for medical research, monitoring, diagnosis, treatment, or other official duties as approved by the NASA Administrator. NASA would report to specified House and Senate committees within one year and annually after. Each report must list each transported person, a description of the transportation, costs per trip, the total number of trips, and the total cost for the prior 12 months. *It would not authorize additional appropriations to carry out this authority.*

Rides for astronauts before clearance
If enacted, NASA could provide rides for astronauts or other federal employees returning from space before they get post-flight medical clearance. The trip would need to be for medical research, monitoring, diagnosis, treatment, or other official duties approved by the NASA Administrator. It would apply only to trips taken before a person is cleared to drive. It would take effect upon enactment.
No new funding for this bill
The bill would not authorize any new money to carry out these changes. It would not itself spend money. NASA would need to use existing funds if this passes.
