Show full summary
- Families and patients: Could lose FDA-approved access to mifepristone and any other abortion drug whose approval relied on treating pregnancy as an illness.
- Healthcare providers: Would no longer have affected FDA approvals to rely on when prescribing or dispensing those abortion drugs.
- Drug manufacturers and regulators: Approvals that used pregnancy-as-illness rationale would be invalidated, and the Department of Health and Human Services, including the FDA, would be barred from using that rationale to approve drugs or impose risk evaluation and mitigation strategies.

Cancel FDA abortion drug approvals
If enacted, the bill would bar HHS and the Food and Drug Administration from treating pregnancy as an illness. That bar would apply to approving abortion drugs and to REMS safety rules. It would cancel any FDA approval that relied in whole or in part on treating pregnancy as an illness. The cancellation would explicitly include the mifepristone approval in effect the day before enactment. If passed, manufacturers, pharmacies, prescribers, and patients could lose legal permission to make, sell, or use these medicines. This could reduce access and raise costs for people who use or prescribe medication abortion.
